Pumpkins. Cobwebs. Skeletons… spooky season is upon us, and the big day is creeping closer!

Now is the perfect time to dig out your favourite decorations, give them pride of place, and create a frightfully fun atmosphere for friends, family, and trick-or-treaters.

Halloween Storage Ideas

But once the celebrations are over, you’ll wa

nt to make sure everything is stored safely, so it’s ready to use again next year without any nasty surprises.

In this blog, our experts at The Storage Team share our not-so-spooky storage tips to help you make the most of the festivities year after year – without the added stress!

Declutter before you store

Before you retire your spooky decor for another year, spend time sorting through it and getting rid of everything you no longer want or need.

Not only does this help simplify the organisation process, but it will also save you time and effort searching through everything when it comes time to decorate next year, and free up space in your home for storage.

Protect fragile items

If you have any glass or ceramic decorations around, or anything else particularly fragile, you should wrap them carefully before putting them into storage.

Wrap each piece individually in bubble wrap or packing paper, and secure it with tape before lining the bottom of your storage box with a layer of crumpled paper or bubble wrap for extra protection.

Once you’ve packed all your wrapped items into your box or container, fill any empty spaces with crumpled paper to prevent items from moving around, seal the container securely (making sure to reinforce corners and edges), and label it clearly to indicate that the items inside are fragile and need handling with care.

Keep costumes fresh

If you’re a serial costume repeater and need to keep your best kit fresh for next year, storing it properly is super important.

Before you put it away, though, wash and dry your costume thoroughly to remove any stains or odours that could lead to permanent damage.

Once you’ve done this, pop your costume into a garment bag to keep it clean and dry, ready for next year’s antics.

Steer clear of damp and damage

When storing your Halloween goodies, you’ll need to choose an appropriate space to store everything.

You’ll need somewhere clean, dry, and well ventilated - like a garage, cupboard, or loft space - to prevent excessive moisture, damp, and damage.

Label everything for next year

To make it easy to find your spooky season essentials, categorise all your items and label them clearly.

Not only does this make life much simpler, but it also frees up time for more exciting activities - we’re talking trick-or-treating, fancy dress parties, and pumpkin carving!
